CVPC Newsletter July 2024

Please note that due to continued high demand we have stopped accepting new applications for membership until further notice to allow us to clear a backlog of applications.

Greetings Members

The range days at Blairadam in April, May & June all went well with good attendance, with weather conditions being favourable. With the clocks having gone forward at the end of March competitions from the 500yd firing point resumed.

A 100yd competition was held at the range in June for members to use rimfire calibre and lever action firearms. This event was enjoyed by those who took part. Similar events are planned.

A gallery rifle fun day is being held at club on the 20th of July. Although the numbers for this event are limited there is a good uptake by club members. Other events are being planned.

We would advise the club membership that from Wednesday the 7th August 2024, the club will be open during the hours of 1100hrs to 1500hrs for members to shoot. This is for a trial period, to gauge if the membership is wanting the club open during the daytime, this could be to accommodate members who find it difficult attending during the evenings or just want to visit for a few hours during the day, get a coffee and socialise.

Mr Mike Currie is coordinating this trial of daytime opening.

At the present, only Associate, full and life members , with their own firearms / air rifles will be invited to attend this daytime opening, the reason for this is that during this trial period, no club guns will be out for use and no ammunition will be for sale during this 1100hr to 1500hr period.

Any questions, feel free to contact the committee via the email address shown on the website.

In summary

  • Club opening 1100hrs to 1500hrs
  • Wed 7th August 2024, and every wed thereafter until further notice
  • Will be able to book on ezfacility, on that week
  • This is for a trial period
  • Only Associate, Full and Life members with own firearms or air rifles will be permitted to attend
  • No club guns will be available during trial period
  • No ammunition will be for sale during trial period

Members can now just turn up at the club and book your shooting details (the duty officer can assist if you haven’t done this before) or pre-book via https://cvpc.ezfacility.com/

We would remind members who wish to buy ammunition at the club that it is only cash transactions at present, so please try to bring the correct change.

COMPETITIONS HELD AT THE CLUB

The Summer League 2024 is currently running. It's not too late to enter. Entry forms are at the club.

FULL BORE COMPETITIONS

As stated above, shooting also takes place during the year at the Blairadam range. Go to the website News page to see the list of range days for 2024.  At the Blairadam range full bore competitions are running at 200 and 500 yards. Shooting at 500 yards only takes place between April and October.

Attendance to Blairadam can be booked by contacting James Mooney. His contact details can be found at the club.  Members wishing to use club guns and associated ammunition at the Blairadam range must also do this in advance by contacting James.  Please note that ammunition must be purchased at the club in advance of the range day being attended.

Those members who have not completed the full bore probationary course are welcome to attend Blairadam by prior notice and arrangement

We now have access to the Dechmont Rifle Range for gallery and full bore rifle, LBR/LBP. Please see the website news link for dates and times. Please note that when attending the Dechmont range you must bring with you your Shooter Certification Card or you will need to shoot under supervision.

Finally Members, don’t hesitate to contact the club if you have any questions regarding attending the club and booking a slot on the range. Remember, we are here to help.

Please remember to bring your fob to access the club. Also "check yourself in" or your visit will not be recorded on the EZfacility system!

Please note that Police Scotland regulary review the clubs attendance records and firearms used by the members. If you fail to attend the club on a regular basis and use your registered firearms this may impact upon your good reason to hold a firearms certificate.

Kind regards,

M Horner
